So yah. Balut is a duck's embrio. Basically they wait until the day before the bird is supposed to hatch and then they cook the bird - and eat it. You first crack open the egg, drink the "juice" (the duck's pee and other), and then you pop it in!
Cute little ducky... yah right. The taste of the egg itself wasn't bad. I personally just swallowed the duck after one chew. Interestingly enough, Ate Pen is full Filipino and this was her very first time eating balut (hense, her expressive faces).

Oh. My. Goodness. I just can't believe you ate that!!!! They had it as a challenge on Survivor years ago and the people had to eat as many as they could in a limited time and those people were gagging and freaking out the WHOLE TIME! You are one gutsy chicka!
wow! What an experience! I don't think that I would have been brave enough to try it.
that is part disgusting and part interesting. (I mean the pictures. hahaha)
I probably like it without the picture. hhahaha
We should have dissected the balut carefully and eat it gradually!
